Lab-Grown Blood Stem Cells

Blood stem cells are found in bone marrow. When these cells don’t work properly, they fail to maintain an adequate supply of blood cells. As a result, not enough oxygen reaches the body’s tissues. This can cause serious disease like leukaemia and other blood disorders. Normally people with these disorders tend to be treated with blood stem cells from a healthy donor.

Scientists finally have created Blood Stem Cells in the lab. Patients can receive lab-grown versions of their own healthy cells. If we can develop high enough numbers of these blood stem cells in the lab , we wouldn’t be dependent on donors. This stem cells can also be a valid form of treatment for many neurological conditions.

The lab-grown stem cells are not quite ready to be used in people just yet. This procedure could be used within the next couple of years. Not only would such a lab-grown blood stem cells supply be more reliable than that from donors, but it would also be free of disease.
